On June 13, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Levi S. Zaslow struck the guilty plea of Tavon Jones, 24, at the request of his defense attorney Bradley Macfee.
Jones is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, and other firearm violations in relation to a shooting that occurred June 28, 2023, at a residence in the 5300 block of Valiquet Avenue. Jones stands accused of firing a .38-caliber handgun at his ex-girlfriend after she kicked him out of the residence. Nobody was harmed, but the bullet reportedly struck Jones’ car tire.
Though Jones previously pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and felony firearm use last August, he and Macfee moved to strike the guilty plea before Judge Zaslow. The prosecution had no objections to the motion. Both parties acknowledged Jones was no longer eligible for home detention, and the prosecution noted Jones’ previous correctional facility was unable to accommodate him for the full duration of his sentence.
Counsel indicated a recent violation on Jones’ record, but Judge Zaslow ruled he would hold off on the matter for the moment. Instead, he warned Jones that the new violation resurfaces against his previous charges.
Jones is now set to receive a trial date before Judge Melissa K. Copeland on June 16.
