A Baltimore City Circuit Court judge agreed to postpone scheduling a trial date for 18-year-old Arthur McCaden in connection to last year’s T-Mobile store murder pending the results of his competency evaluation.

McCaden is currently facing four sets of charges in three separate incidents on April 18, 25 and 30. There are 18 counts stemming from the homicide on April 30 2022, including first-degree murder, armed robbery, assault and weapons charges.

His other cases include armed robbery, assault and weapons charges.

In reception court on Oct. 24, one of the two prosecutors assigned to the case told Judge Melissa M. Phinn that McCaden is expected to be found competent to stand trial during a mental health court hearing on Oct. 25. He asked the case return to reception court on Dec. 4 to schedule a trial date in the early 2024 to which Judge Phinn agreed.

Defense attorney Maura Lynch represented McCaden during Tuesday’s proceedings.

The Baltimore City Police Department (BPD) previously reported that McCaden and another man walked into a T-Mobile store on the 2500 block of Boston Street shortly before 4:30 p.m. the day of the crime and declared it was a robbery. One of the two suspects allegedly then shot 23-year-old Fabian Alberto Sanchez Gonzalez, who was a store employee.

The police report states the suspects also demanded property from several store patrons before absconding.

Gonzalez was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries the following day.
