A Baltimore man accused of a 2019 murder will return to court Aug. 20 to receive a jury trial date.
Lorenzo Thomas, 49, was found guilty of second-degree murder and firearm possession with a prior felony conviction in connection to the March 27, 2019 fatal shooting of Tyree Lee, 39.
The incident occurred in Dolfield, near the 3900 block of Penhurst Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located Lee suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the head and pronounced him dead at the scene. Thomas was ultimately sentenced to 45 years in prison.
On May 30, 2023, the Appellate Court of Maryland remanded the murder charge, sending the case back down to Baltimore City Circuit Court. Thomas repeatedly claimed that his requests to act as his own attorney were disregarded.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland scheduled Thomas to return to court Aug. 20 to decide a date for a six-day jury trial.
Brandon Taylor represented Thomas at the hearing.
