Juvenile Defendant’s Attempted Murder Trial Delayed

A 15-year-old defendant who was originally set to be tried as an adult waived his rights to a speedy trial on Oct. 29, consenting to further delays in his case. The decision follows the filing of a reverse waiver, which seeks to transfer the case from adult criminal court back to the juvenile criminal jurisdiction.

The teenager is charged with attempted murder, assault, armed robbery, and multiple gun violations for his involvement in a Dec. 7, 2024 incident. Due to the defendant’s young age, his charging documents aren’t publically available on the Maryland Electronic Courts system.

The case is set to return to reception court Dec. 15 for a status hearing so parties can review the case and set a date for trial.

However, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland indicated the case may not proceed to trial until 2026.
