Trial was delayed on July 22 in a Greenmount Avenue shooting case due to a shortage of jurors. The judges chambers informed Baltimore Witness that it is likely that the case may not proceed given the situation.
The defendant Brandon Lee Vines, 42, is charged with first degree murder and firearm use in a felony/violent crime.
Charge documents indicate that at approximately 11:41am Eastern District officers from the Baltimore Police Department responded to the 1900 block of Greenmount Ave in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival they observed a Black male who was later identified as Mitchell Rhone lying unresponsive on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Johns Hopkins hospital and was pronounced dead.
CCTV footage revealed that Rhone parked his vehicle and then walked to 20th St and Greenmount where he met with three Black males. One of the individuals, wearing a grey jacket, grey pants and white tennis shoes discharged a weapon striking the victim in the head.
On November 19th 2025, an eyewitness was interviewed by detectives at the homicide unit. The witness allegedly claimed that a man named Brandon Vines came up to the victim and shot him multiple times while Rhone was conversing with other men in the group.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Michael DiPietro presides over the case. Jury selection is set to resume on July 23.
