Jury selection began Sept. 22 for the trial of a Baltimore man charged with the fatal 2023 shooting of Aaron Frantom, 37.

Kimani Johnson, 35, is charged with first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery, and firearm use in a felony violent crime in connection to the incident, which occurred June 16, 2023 on the 100 block of N. Mount Street. Officers responding to the scene were advised by a witness on the scene that Frantom had been shot.

The witness told police that he and Frantom were traveling westbound on the 1700 block of W. Baltimore Street and parked in the unit block of N. Fulton Avenue to make a phone call. While parked, Frantom and his friend were approached by two unknown Black men.

The witness said the one who dreadlocks and wore dark-colored pants, approached the vehicle’s driver side and asked, “Do you like to party?”

The suspect then reportedly produced a handgun and discharged it into the vehicle, striking Frantom in the neck and shoulder. Frantom succumbed to his injuries on Aug. 3, 2024.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Judge Cynthia H. Jones is presiding over the case.

Counsel is expected to deliver opening statements in the trial on Sept. 23.
