Jury Selection Begins in Retrial for Brother-in-Law’s Shooting Case

Jury selection began March 9 in the retrial of 56-year-old Craig Williams, who is accused of shooting his brother-in-law during a dispute at their shared Pigtown residence over a year ago.

Williams is being retried before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lawrence R. Daniels after his previous trial ended in a hung jury before Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer last December.

Williams, who maintained his innocence prior to trial proceedings, is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, and multiple firearm violations in connection with the shooting.

Proceedings opened with a pool of 90 prospective jurors as the court began selecting a panel for the case.

The issue centers on a Nov. 25, 2024, confrontation at a home on the 1100 block of Scott Street. According to court documents, both men lived at the property. The shooting allegedly followed a verbal altercation in which Williams alleged;u accused his brother-in-law of entering his room without permission.

Key evidence includes two rifle casings recovered from the basement steps, a bloody shirt, and other blood residue. Investigators say Williams fired a rifle at his brother-in-law while standing near the bottom of the basement stairs. The victim’s girlfriend, who was in the basement at the time, later identified Williams as the alleged gunman.

The victim was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the left shoulder and rear, and was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.
