Jury selection in the homicide trial of co-defendants Terrill Barfield and Jarvis Joyner is currently underway before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Althea M. Handy.
Barfield, 39, and Joyner, 35, are each charged with first-degree murder and various firearm charges in connection to the Jan. 12, 2024 shooting death of 36-year-old Deon Beasley.
According to charging documents, police responded to a ShotSpotter alert to the sounds of gunfire on the 800 block of Washington Boulevard and the 500 block of Scott Street where they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit, Beasley was pronounced deceased.
Surveillance footage ,retrieved by investigators, showed two masked individuals exit a silver minivan and shoot the victim before fleeing on foot.
Officers responding to the scene observed the minivan in the vicinity on multiple occasions, subsequently discovering Barfield as the alleged driver and Joyner in the passenger seat.
Opening statements are expected to begin on July 14.
