Jury selection began April 10 for the trial of one of two brothers charged in a broad daylight shooting that left one dead and one injured inside a vehicle last January.
Dylon Tomlinson, 29, and his brother and co-defendant Darren Tomlinson, 31, are charged with two counts of first-degree murder, attempting and conspiring to commit first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and multiple firearm charges for their involvement in a shooting, which occurred Jan. 19, 2025 on the 400 block of Washburn Avenue.
On April 10, a Baltimore judge denied an effort from the state to postpone the trial due issues with Dylon’s case. As a result, the case was sent back to Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Charles H. Dorsey to begin jury selection.
The incident resulted in the death of 43-year-old Hassan Howard, who was found in the driver’s side of a Dodge Ram truck with fatal gunshot wounds to his neck, arm and chest. The other victim, who had been sitting in the truck’s passenger seat, survived his injuries.
Charging documents describe how at around 8:37 a.m. that day, surveillance cameras captured two suspects approaching the vehicle. One opened fire into the front driver’s side, and the other into the front passenger side.
Less than an hour after the shooting, medical staff at a trauma center pronounced Howard deceased.
The two men then fled the scene on foot before escaping in a Hyundai Kona, which they allegedly rented the day prior. The Kona was returned later in the day of the shooting, at 3:46 p.m.
After a three-month delay in proceedings due to a cancelled jury trial in early January, Dylon’s trial has finally begun. Counsel is expected to deliver opening statements next Monday, April 13.
Dylon’s brother, Darren, is set to stand trial much later, before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lynn Stewart Mays on Aug. 17.
