The jury selection process for 24-year-old homicide defendant Ronald Haskins began on April 4 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Yolanda A. Tanner.
Haskins is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm during a violent crime, having a handgun on his person, and possession of a firearm with a felony conviction in connection to an incident on Jan. 11, 2020.
Following multiple postponements due to rising COVID-19 cases, the case is set to begin this week.
According to the Baltimore Sun, officers were called around 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 11, 2020, to respond to a shooting. On the 1400 block of Broening Highway officers discovered the victim, 38-year-old Richard Pearson, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Pearson was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
Haskins previously rejected a plea deal of life, suspending all but 55 years, for first-degree murder with the first five years without the possibility of parole for firearm use during a violent crime. The sentences would have run concurrently.
Haskins is represented by defense attorneys Josh Insley and Karyn Meriwether.
