Jury selection began April 14 for the trial of a homicide defendant who is accused of killing 2-month-old Zorii Pitts in May of 2021 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Emanuel Brown.
Darius Williams, 34, is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in the death of a youth under the age of 13, and first-degree child abuse which resulted in severe physical injury for his alleged involvement with an incident that occurred on May 15, 2021.
According to Maryland’s Judiciary, Williams is represented by defense attorney Paul Polansky.
The Baltimore Police Department reported that Southern District officers were called to the unit block of South Monastery Avenue at approximately 8:50 a.m. on May 15, 2021, and found 2-month-old Zorii Pitts unresponsive in a bassinet.
Following an autopsy, medical examiners ruled that Pitts died from blunt force trauma to the head, specifically, a crushed skull.
As previously reported by Baltimore Witness, Williams’ trial is expected to be a 4-to-5-day trial that is expected to conclude on April 20.
