Kevin Hawkins Sr., 51, was found not guilty by a jury of all charges he faced in connection to a disorderly family dispute on Sept. 5.
Hawkins was initially charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and multiple firearm-related offenses in response to an Oct. 17, 2024 shooting that occurred at his residence on the 5600 block of Greenfield Avenue.
According to charging documents, Hawkins fired a gunshot after a verbal altercation unfolded between him and his sons. Both sons were left uninjured. Hawkins then barricaded himself inside his residence, leading a tactical team to respond.
Defense attorney Brandon Thornton argued Hawkins acted out of self-defense because his sons were “abusive and problematic,” citing medical records Hawkins obtained after one of his sons allegedly pushed him down a flight of stairs.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Paul J. Cucuzzella presided over closing arguments on Sept. 4.
