Jury Finds Defendant in 2022 S. Carey Street Homicide Guilty

“What we have is some of the strongest pieces of evidence,” the prosecution said during her closing argument on Aug. 16. 

The prosecution alleged that Tavon Jamal Green Jr. killed 21-year-old Joshua Wittington after the victim did not like how the defendant was driving with his son in the car. 

The jury found the 23-year-old defendant guilty of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime and having a handgun on his person before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Althea M. Handy on Aug. 16. 

A verdict was not rendered for the second-degree murder charge. 

During closing arguments, the prosecution argued that multiple people identified Green as the one who was on CCTV cameras walking toward Wittington. 

“Mr. Green identifies himself in CCTV footage,” the prosecutor said, claiming  that the defendant intended to kill the victim. 

“[Mr. Green] shot him again to make sure he finished the job,” the prosecution added. 

Defense attorney Roland Harris countered that the prosecution did not have “the strongest pieces of evidence.” 

“You will have to decide how many times you want to be led astray,” Harris said. 

Harris noted that Wittington did not identify Green when he called his girlfriend moments after the shooting. 

“[Mr. Wittington] does not say Tavon or Mr. Green shot me,” Harris continued. “He says he shot me.”

The prosecution later rebutted that Harris’s closing argument was “a bunch of irrelevant information to distract you,”

“We have concrete evidence that can’t be altered,” she added.
