A jury found 42-year-old homicide defendant Lionel Matthews guilty of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, and having a loaded handgun on his person on Feb. 5. Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer presided over the case.
Matthews shot and killed 36-year-old Bryant Williams in the 100 block of South Stockton Street on Feb. 29, 2024. Baltimore CitiWatch footage submitted by the prosecution showed a person identified as Matthews opening fire on Williams. The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) was able to locate the bike on which the suspect fled the scene. The prosecution also presented photos signed by the suspect’s father and uncle that confirmed Matthews identity.
Mathew’s sentencing date is to be determined.
