Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland scheduled a five-day jury trial for Dale Haddix, 23, during reception court on May 2. Haddix is set to reappear in court July 10 before Judge Lynn S. Mays.
Haddix faces charges of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime and having a handgun on his person in relation to the death of Tyron Fields, 44. Haddix is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to an assault conviction from 2022.
According to charging documents, on Dec. 19, 2023 Haddix and Fields were in the 6500 block of Saint Helena Avenue when an argument ensued. Fields, in fear of his life, reportedly photographed Haddix with his cellphone and electronically alerted others that, should something happen to him, Haddix will be responsible.
Haddix and Fields relocated and continued to argue outside the 200 block of Central Avenue. At some point, Haddix allegedly produced a handgun and shot Fields multiple times, resulting in his death.
On Sept. 9, 2024, a witness whose identity will be disclosed in court allegedly dentified Haddix as the person who shot and killed Fields.
The prosecution had no offer for Haddix during the hearing. Counsel noted discovery is mostly complete, with the exception of one file. Haddix, who has not yet received discovery from the prosecution, expressed dissatisfaction with the delay.
“I have been asking for it the whole time,” he said.
Defense attorney Koryn N. High reassured him he will receive discovery next week.
