On Oct. 10, Baltimore City Circuit Judge Melissa M. Phinn continued the reception court hearing for a murder defendant because his defense lawyer couldn’t get back to the United States.
Devin Curry is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in a felony or violent crime, attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm as a minor in connection to an incident on April 14, 2022.
Curry’s defense attorney, Isaac Klein, was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday alongside his client; however, he unable to get back to Baltimore after his flight was cancelled.
A representative from Klein’s office said the attorney was on vacation in Israel, but due to the ongoing war in the Middle East, he won’t be able to get a flight until Oct. 12.
The defendant meanwhile rejected the prosecution’s plea offer, the terms of which were not disclosed.
Curry and his attorney will next appear in reception court on Oct. 27 to schedule his trial.
According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) responded to the 6200 block of Pennington Avenue to investigate a shooting. When officers arrived, they found 52-year-old Daniel Pitts, Jr., with a fatal gunshot wound to his head.
After further investigation, police identified Curry as the suspect.
