On Dec. 6, Maurice Wilkerson appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn. Wilkerson’s attorney, Roya Hanna, and the prosecutor decided on April 4, 2024, for his retrial.

Wilkerson was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, the use of a firearm in a felony violent crime, carrying a handgun on his person, discharging firearms, possessing a firearm with a felony conviction and the illegal possession of a regulated firearm.

On Sept. 7, 2018, Wilkerson was sentenced to 35 years in prison on an assault charge, reckless endangerment and weapon related charges.

As reported by Baltimore Witness, Hanna and Wilkerson say they will present new witnesses at the retrial. The prosecutor, meanwhile, wants to retry Wilkerson for the original charges. The Appellate Court of Maryland has not yet ruled on that question.
