Gregory Jones, 25, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland for an initial pre-trial hearing on Feb. 14.
Jones is charged with first- degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, possession of a firearm with felony conviction and illegal possession of firearm.
Investigators allegedly identified Jones as one of two shooters involved in a March 12, 2022 incident on the 800 block of Stiles Street. Responding officers located 42-year-old Olen Smith unresponsive in the middle of the street in a pool of blood. Smith suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and despite medical efforts, was pronounced dead on the scene.
A Glock 45 pistol and iPhone were recovered from the scene. Jones allegedly admitted during an interview that both items belong to him. During the search and seizure of Jones’ iPhone, investigators found pictures and conversations apparently implicating him as one of the shooters The Glock 45 also is said to match cartridge casings recovered from two other gun incidents to which Jones admitted.
The prosecution requested date of March 3 to deliver evidence to the defense, and Judge Copeland reset a pre-trial date to April 21.
