“I am forgiving these men for killing my son…Not just for me, but for their mothers,” said a mother during the sentencing for the man accused of killing her son, Donnell Brockington

Defendant Anthony Clark was one of four co-defendants arrested in connection to the murder of Brockington, which occurred on Nov. 13, 2019, on the 2600 block of McElderry Street.

“I forgive him. I do not think you [Clark] shot my son, “said the victim’s mother during her speech given prior to the sentencing of the 23-year-old defendant. The mother continued on, explaining how she wanted the defendant to learn something during his time spent incarcerated, not just be thrown in jail.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Dana M. Middleton gave Clark a sentence of 15 years for conspiracy to use a firearm in a felony violent crime and a consecutive five years for firearm possession as a minor.

During his time to speak, Clark stated, “It’s not right to say I murdered someone. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” which caused an upset among the victim’s family that was present. Judge Middleton countered the defendant’s comment by explaining that Clark claimed to be remorseful but was instead elaborating on the inconveniences he has endured during the time he has spent locked up.

According to previous reporting from Baltimore Witness, Clark’s co-defendants, James Dunbar, Jerry Shamar, William Thornton and Donald Wright are not facing first- or second-degree murder charges, but they are each facing various weapons charges.
