Judge Schedules Trial for Attempted Murder Defendant

On March 28, Judge Melissa K. Copeland heard the attempted murder case of 33-year-old Jamal Banks

Banks is charged with three charges of attempted first-degree murder, three charges of attempted second-degree murder, three charges of first-degree assault, four charges of reckless endangerment, three charges of firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, carrying and transporting a handgun and discharging a firearm in relation to an incident that occurred on Aug. 27, 2023.

At the hearing, the stand-in prosecutor offered Banks a pending plea deal that included 40 years, suspending all but 18 years, with the first five years without the possibility of parole and five years of supervised probation.

Another defense attorney stood in for Banks’ attorney Robert Cole and asked Judge Copeland for a three-day trial in May. 

Judge Copeland set Banks’ trial date to commence on May 24.
