Judge Schedules Non-Fatal Shooting Defendant for Trial in April

A Baltimore man involved in an attempted murder was given a trial date on Nov. 15 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland.

Andre Davis, 36, is charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder, three counts of second-degree attempted murder, three counts of first-degree assault, use of a firearm in a violent crime, three counts of second-degree assault, three counts of reckless endangerment, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, two counts of malicious destruction of property of more than $1000, and discharging a firearm within the city.

On Monday, Judge Copeland listened as the prosecution presented a plea of 35 years, suspending all but 20 years, with five years supervised probation for first-degree attempted murder and 10 years for second-degree attempted murder.

Davis and his defense attorney, Jonathan Kerr, rejected the plea.

According to court documents, on May 31, 2020, officers with the Baltimore Police Department were called to the 2800 block of Lake Avenue for an aggravated assault. When they arrived, the victim told police that her mother’s boyfriend, later identified as Davis, began arguing with her. As Davis began to become very irate, he allegedly confronted the victim, causing the victim’s mother to intervene before things got worse.

The victim proceeded to leave the area and get into her vehicle when Davis pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and fired it at the victim. The victim feared for her safety along with the passengers, especially her 1-year-old son, documents state.

Davis’ trial is scheduled for April 19, 2022.
