Daquan McCray, 27, and defense attorney Robert A. Cohen declined the prosecution’s plea offer before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on April 2. The deal included a sentence of life, suspending all but 35 years, and five years of supervised probation for attempted second-degree murder.

McCray faces multiple charges, including attempted and conspiracy to commit first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and firearm use in the commission of a violent crime as well as several misdemeanors related to the possession of a loaded handgun and firearm use during the commission of a felony.

Charging documents state that on Sept. 19, 2024, at approximately 5:45 p.m., officers responded to a non-fatal shooting at an apartment located on Harford Road. Witnesses reported that three individuals were inside the home when two suspects approached and knocked on the door. A witness later identified McCray as one of the alleged suspects. McCray and the unknown suspect requested to speak with an individual, and the victim allowed them to enter.

Once inside, McCray was allegedly heard apologizing before drawing a semi-automatic handgun and pointing it at the individual he said he wanted to talk to.

The victim and the individual fled the house and the suspects reportedly gave chase. The suspect allegedly fired a single shot, striking the victim in the thigh.

McCray was allegedly heard saying, “You shot the wrong guy,” before both suspects fled the scene.

Based on the circumstances, authorities believed McCray conspired to murder the victim.

A jury trial is scheduled for June 17 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lynn S. Mays.
