Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland approved a request from defense attorney Avrohom Greenfield to postpone the trial of 25-year-old Gregory Jones pending expert testimony on July 11.
Jones is charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and other related firearm charges in connection to the homicide of Olen Smith, 42, that occurred March 12, 2022, on the 800 block of Stiles Street.
On July 10, Greenfield and the prosecution argued before Judge Troy K. Hill about the importance of cell site data. Greenfield argued that the location data from Jones’ cellphone put him in places other than the location of the homicide. Greenfield said this evidence could exculpate Jones.
Judge Hill ruled that an expert in cell site data is necessary in this case. Greenfield and the prosecution are planning to introduce expert testimonies.
Jones’ trial is scheduled for Nov. 17 before Judge Hill.
