The man charged with the murder and armed robbery of 33-year-old Jameo McClean had his reception court hearing continued because counsel could not agree on a trial date.
Defendant Steven Arthur, who was represented by stand-in defense attorney Romell Showell for the proceeding, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn on April 19.
Judge Phinn continued the hearing to May 26 to allow Arthur’s retained defense attorney Brandon Thorton to discuss a trial date with the prosecution.
Arthur, 33, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of armed robbery, three counts of attempted armed robbery, five counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, five counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime, two counts of first-degree assault, attempted murder, firearm possession with a felony conviction and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in connection to a May 31, 2021 incident.
Co-defendant Jerome Jeremy Johnson was found guilty of first-degree murder, armed robbery and two counts of attempted armed robbery on July 10. He is scheduled to appear on Aug. 22 for sentencing.
Charging documents state that McClean was found in the basement of a home on the 1900 block of W. Fayette Street, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Arthur was allegedly threatened by two unidentified men to get drugs from the victim. The defendant and an unnamed associate went into the basement with the victim, where the “associate” allegedly shot McClean. It is unknown if “the associate” is the co-defendant.
