In a brief hearing on Sept. 27, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Y. Ausby granted a request for postponement in the case of a convicted murder defendant.
Quinton Jermaine Heard, 46, was convicted of first-degree murder in 1997 and served 14 years before he was released. In 2015, he was charged with violating the terms of his probation.
During the incident in question, Heard allegedly fired a handgun in a “gunfight” on Interstate 95 in Baltimore. He pleaded not guilty to violating his probation but received a suspended life sentence for the charge on May 8, 2017.
He was set to appear for a motion for modification hearing five years after his sentence.
Mark Van Bavel, Heard’s defense attorney, told the court that his client had suffered multiple medical issues, including a heart attack, HIV, bronchitis, and asthma.
He explained that Heard’s health issues needed to be investigated, as they could impact his case, and the prosecutor agreed to his request for postponement.
Heard’s next hearing is scheduled for Nov. 29 at 3 p.m. via zoom.
