Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin ordered an in-person mental evaluation for a man accused of a 2018 murder after he previously refused to appear before court on Oct. 17, 2024.
Bryant Whitaker, who is diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, faces murder and firearm charges in connection to the July 21, 2018 murder of 24-year-old Markell Wall. Whitaker’s charges include first- and second-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, and illegal possession of a regulated firearm.
CCTV footage is said to show Whitaker standing at the northwest corner of Darley Avenue and Aiken Street as Wall exits a Ford F-150 truck and approaches Whitaker. Prosecutors say Whitaker is shown pulling out a gun and firing at the victim. Whitaker appears to continue firing as Wall reenters his truck and attempts to drive away.
Whitaker was deemed incapable of standing trial due to his mental health diagnoses, which allegedly led him to assault an officer on Dec.1, 2022. During the hearing, he appeared agitated and rambled for at least 30 minutes.
Whitaker’s evaluation is set for Feb. 26.
