The jury trial for a 2023 homicide case was postponed on Monday morning due to the prosecutor’s illness.
Defendant Desron Barber, 22, is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree assault, using a firearm in a felony violent crime, having a deadly weapon with intent to injure and four counts of reckless endangerment.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry G. Williams sent defense attorney Martin Cohen and his client to reception court before Judge Melissa K. Copeland.
The original trial was expected to last five days. The new trial is scheduled to occur on June 27 before Judge Althea M. Handy.
According to previous coverage, Baltimore Police Department officers responded to a report of an aggravated assault on the 3200 block of Shannon Drive. Biancha Johnson was discovered suffering from her injuries on May 24, 2023, and was pronounced dead when she reached the hospital. Both the 31-year-old victim and the defendant were allegedly involved in a group physical altercation, during which the defendant fired a gun and shot the victim.
