Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland granted a motion by defendant Gregory Markeith Barnes, 49, to postpone his trial on July 16.

The day prior, Judge Copeland had denied defense attorney Karyn Meriwether’s request to postpone trial. After the prosecution failed to show up due to medical reasons and the defense noted they needed more time to prepare, the trial date was moved.

If agreed to by the prosecution, the new trial will begin Nov. 18 and last five days.

Barnes is charged with first-degree murder and three other firearm violations in connection to the fatal shooting of Dennis Edmonds, 39. The murder occurred June 16, 2024, on the 4300 block of West Bay Avenue.

Though Barnes rejected the plea offer, the prosecution will allow it to remain on the table until the first day of trial.
