On May 31, the Baltimore Circuit Court Medical requested an extension for an additional competency evaluation for a defendant accused of committing a non-fatal shooting in 2022.

Defense attorney, James Sweeting III, waved his client, Daykai Quarles‘, presence at Wednesday’s hearing.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin granted the request for an extension and scheduled a new hearing for July 5.

Quarles, 22, is being charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, discharging firearms, assault in the first degree, and reckless endangerment for an incident that occurred on Aug. 8, 2022.

According to the statement of charges, on the day of the incident, on the 4400 block of Elderon Avenue, Quarles shot a gun from a second-story window at the victim after an argument broke out between his father and the victim.
