During a Nov. 7 reception court hearing, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn issued a continuance to a murder defendant who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend.

Michael Allen is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and use of a deadly weapon with the intent to cause injury in connection to the stabbing of Elizabeth Holland on June 1, 2018, on the 3000 block of Ascension Street.

According to a press release from the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City, Allen, now 72, reportedly stabbed Holland 13 times, leaving eight inch stab wounds.

Baltimore Police found Holland in a bedroom upstairs bleeding and lying unconscious on a bed.

The Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City also alleged that Allen reported the incident to police that evening, claiming he arrived home to an open door after walking his dog.

Contrary to Allen’s submission, police found no signs of forced entry and ruled out the possibility of an unknown person committing the crime.

At the proceeding, Judit Otvos, one of Allen’s defense attorneys, informed the court that her co-counsel Robert Cohen must reschedule the proceeding due to military obligations. She expressed to Judge Phinn that he could potentially face deployment.

Judge Phinn agreed to continue the hearing.

Parties are expected to reconvene on Dec. 5 where they will further discuss matters.
