Judge Denies Bail to 27-Year-Old

A Baltimore man accused of attempted murder was denied bail on Feb.18 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Phillip S. Jackson. 

Rasheed Jones, 27 is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, use of a firearm during a violent crime, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, CDS possession of a firearm, carrying/wearing a handgun on his person, reckless endangerment, discharging firearms, and illegal possession of ammo in connection to an incident on Oct. 2, 2021. 

During a bail hearing on Friday, Judge Taylor listened as the prosecutor informed the court that Jones is charged with the shooting in this case. Given the defendant’s prior record, the prosecutor recommends no bail.

Jones’s defense attorney, Roland Brown, argued that after the defendant dropped his son off at school, he stopped to get gas and had a gun held in his face while being robbed. The defendant was able to slap the weapon out of the robber’s hand. 

In addition, Brown states there were shots fired from both sides, but the defendant was not looking for any trouble. He said trouble found the defendant.

After listening to counsel, Judge Taylor denied bail.

Jones’ next hearing is scheduled for May 10.
