A Baltimore man charged with first-degree murder had a bail request denied by Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer on July 18.
Defendant Jonathan Lee Bowman is charged with first and second-degree murder, using a firearm during a felony violent crime and having a handgun on his person.
According to court documents, on April 21, 2021, Baltimore Police Department officers received a call for a shooting on the 3400 block of Fairview Avenue and an additional call for service for a discharge at the same location.
Witnesses told police that they saw people carrying a gunshot victim into a vehicle and driving away.
The victim, later identified as Demetris Henry, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment where he would later be pronounced deceased.
Henry lived at the location of the shooting.
During their investigation, police learned that Bowman also temporarily resided in the apartments on Fairview Avenue.
Witnesses positively identified Bowman as the man that shot and killed Henry during a verbal dispute.
Bowman, 26, is facing a sentence of 40 years for first-degree murder and a concurrent 20 years with five years of probation for using a firearm during a felony violent crime.
Judge Schiffer scheduled the 26-year-old defendant’s jury trial for Aug. 30.
