During a Dec. 5 reception court hearing, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn delayed a trial date for a 26-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a pregnant woman and her toddler.
Devon Sample is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of firearm use during a violent crime, violence against a pregnant person, having a handgun in vehicle and having a handgun on his person in connection to the deaths of Shaiand Miller, her unborn son, and her 3-year-old daughter, Shaniya Gilmore, on June 18, 2020.
At Monday’s hearing, Judge Phinn scheduled an alternate trial date for Sample as his defense attorney, Roland Brown, was recently assigned his case in the midst of a trial.
Judge Phinn granted Brown additional time to sort through documents and learn more about the case.
According to CBS Baltimore, the defendant was arrested after the bodies of the victims were discovered inside a car on the 200 block of Boswell Street.
Sample and Miller had allegedly been arguing prior to the incident.
The trial is set to occur on April 2, 2023, before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Schiffer.
