Following a three-day bench trial, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Michael A. DiPietro found 44-year-old Riccardo Demond King guilty of manslaughter and six gun violations on Feb. 3.
Defense attorney Donald Wright represented King, against a manslaughter charge that was downgraded from first-degree murder. King’s gun convictions included firearm use in the commission of a felony violent crime, illegal possession of ammunition, and two loaded handgun offenses. Judge DiPietro did not render a verdict on the charge of illegal firearm possession.
King was charged in connection to the death of Marvin Wooten, 47, which took place on Oct. 27, 2024 after an intense confrontation involving King’s pregnant fiancée.
Wright claimed Wooten was acting “crazy” when he approached King’s fiancée, banging on her car window and repeatedly threatening to kill her.
King reportedly responded by approaching and confronting Wooten in an attempt to intimidate him. Shortly after, he shot Wooten once. The prosecution claimed King opened fire even though Wooten raised his hands and began to retreat.
Judge DiPietro is set to deliver King’s sentencing on April 22.
