On July 19, a Baltimore City Circuit Court judge scheduled a jury trial for three codefendants accused of murdering a 21-year-old Amare Burrus

The defendants, Wesley LambertGarry Morris and Darrean Fleming, appeared before Judge Melisa M Phinn during reception court hearing where they were presented with plea offers. The prosecution offered a plea of life, suspending all but 40 years and five years of supervised probation for first-degree murder to be served concurrently with a 20-year sentence for firearm use in a felony violent crime.

Each of the defendants has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, and possessing a handgun in a vehicle.

Fleming’s defense attorney, Michael Tomko, formally rejected the plea offer, Julie Shapiro, representing Lambert, and Mary Lloyd Patton, representing Morris, claimed that it was unlikely that their clients would accept.

Due to the January 2024 calendar not being open yet, Judge Phinn continued the hearing for Sept. 19 to schedule the trials.

According to a Baltimore City Police Department press release, the three defendants were arrested in connection with the murder of Burrus on Dec. 7, 2022, on the 4200 block of Pimlico Road.

On Feb. 14, Lambert, 22, was arrested, followed by Fleming, 23, who was arrested on Feb. 22 and Morris, 22, was arrested on Feb. 23.
