On Feb. 3, a homicide defendant was scheduled for trial before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn.
The prosecution did not offer defendant Jalonte Davis, who was represented by stand-in defense attorney Robert Cohen on behalf of Henry Barnes, a plea after he rejected a previous plea on Aug. 30, 2021.
The trial for the 25-year-old defendant was rescheduled for May 8, as defense attorney Barnes was already double-booked for another trial on July 30.
The trial is expected to last three days with Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lawrence Fletcher-Hill presiding.
According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Davis is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in a felony violent crime, and possession of a firearm with a felony conviction in connection to the murder of 24-year-old Jerron Davis.
According to charging documents, Jalonte retrieved a handgun after having an argument with his brother Jerron. Jalonte allegedly shot Jerron in the head and fled the scene on March 1, 2020. Three days later, the victim died from his injuries.
