Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia H. Jones granted a motion for joinder for co-defendants Keon Brooks and Donte Mack on July 15, allowing the cases to be tried as one. The motion was filed by the prosecution for the sake of judicial economy. Judge Jones granted the motion after finding the evidence against each defendant mutually admissible.

Brooks, 19, and Mack, 22, are each charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in a felony or violent crime and reckless endangerment in connection to a non-fatal shooting incident that occurred last November on W. North Avenue.

On Nov. 25, 2024, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of W. North Avenue in reference to a ShotSpotter alert. Upon arrival, officers found 16 9mm casings and a weapon mounted laser.

A few hours later, officers responded to a walk-in shooting victim at Grace Medical Center. The victim and a witness advised they were sitting in their vehicle when unknown suspects began shooting at the vehicle’s rear and passenger side. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to their right thigh, left thigh, right elbow and right lower back.

A third co-defendant was also included in the joinder motion, but remains unnamed as a juvenile at the time of the incident. Charging documents are unavailable for the juvenile co-defendant.

Counsel for the defendants opposed the motion, citing concerns of evidence against one defendant could prejudice another suspect. Although Judge Jones granted the motion, she advised caution be taken to prevent prejudice against the defendants.

The defendants are scheduled for a hearing on July 16 to schedule a new date for further proceedings.
