A panel of jurors failed to reach a consensus March 27 over the homicide trial of 41-year-old Fielding Bame.
Bame is charged with second-degree murder and intent to injure with a dangerous weapon in connection to the July 12, 2024 fatal stabbing of 48-year-old D’Ondre Quickley on the 100 block of N. Front Street.
Jury deliberations began the afternoon of March 26. That evening, jurors sent a note to the judge requesting further instruction on the meaning of self defense.
After deliberations grew contentious Thursday afternoon, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kimberly McBride declared a hung jury and dismissed the panel. The trial began on March 24.
During the trial, defense attorney Jason Rodriguez claimed that Fielding initiated the stabbing to defend himself following a physical altercation in which Quickley allegedly attacked him twice with a belt and threw various objects at him.
The prosecution argued that Bame’s actions were excessive.
Quickley was declared deceased by the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) eight days after the incident.
