Joint Trial Postponed for Poppleton Double Shooting Case

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland postponed the joint murder trial of co-defendants Gregory Granger Jr. and Ritchie Hicks on Nov. 20.

Granger, 41, and Hicks, 30, are charged with first-degree murder, attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and multiple firearm offenses in connection to a Dec. 16, 2024, shooting on the 1200 block of W. Baltimore Street in the Poppleton neighbborhood. The incident left 44-year-old Ricky Forehand dead, and another 45-year-old man injured.

Granger’s attorney, Staci Pipkin, told the court that Hicks’s attorney, Natalie Finegar, was currently unavailable due to her involvement in another trial that was delayed by a juror shortage. Pipkin also cited the “voluminous” amount of evidence in the case, noting that her client still needed to review over 500 videos.

The prosecution agreed that a postponement was necessary, stating she wanted both defendants to remain joined for trial. She added that personal circumstances that recently kept her out of the office made preparing for the trial more difficult.

Judge Copeland granted the postponement, finding good cause for both defendants’ requests.

The trial is now set to proceed on April 6, 2026 before Judge Jeffrey M. Geller, with four days allotted for proceedings.
