Jamestowne Court Attempted Murder Defendant Rejects 15 Year Plea

Attempted murder defendant Malik Alford opted to move forward with a jury trial after rejecting a plea of 15 years in prison before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on Feb. 13.

Alford, 22, is currently facing charges for attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, firearm use in felony violent crime and firing a gun in Baltimore City in connection to the non-fatal shooting of a 25-year-old man in September 2023.

During the proceeding, the prosecution offered Alford a plea of 30 years, suspending all but 10 years, for attempted second-degree murder and a consecutive 20 years, suspending all but five years without the possibility of parole, for firearm use in a felony violent crime. Under the terms of the 15 year plea, Alford would have also been required to serve three years of supervised probation and stay away from the victim.

Alford and his defense attorney Augustine Okeke rejected this offer.

Judge Copeland scheduled a two-day trial beginning April 4 before Judge Barry G. Williams

According to a Baltimore Police Department press release, on Sept. 19, 2023, officers were called to the 5300 block of Jamestowne Court due to a reported shooting. Upon arrival, they found a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound. Alford was arrested at the scene.
