Inner Harbor Murder Trial Postponed For Fourth Time

The trial of a 20-year-old Baltimore man accused of murdering a teenager outside the Renaissance Baltimore Harbor Place Hotel last April faced its fourth postponement in a year on Nov. 18 after the judge assigned to his case was unable to appear due to illness.

Due to the absence of Judge Lynn Stewart Mays, defendant Dejuan Cole’s case was sent before Judge Melissa K. Copeland for a postponement date.

Cole is charged with first-degree murder, two armed robbery charges, and three firearm violations for allegedly shooting and killing Devron Tyner, 17, on April 1, 2024. Tyner was shot to death outside the hotel on the 200 block of E. Pratt Street. Cole turned himself into the Baltimore Police Department a week after the shooting.

According to charging documents, two eyewitnesses testified they saw five males, one of whom was Cole, fleeing the scene of the shooting on foot. Surveillance footage tracked the primary suspect fleeing the scene in a light-colored hoodie. Still photographs were taken from security footage and released, leading several witnesses to positively identify Cole as the alleged shooter.

Judge Mays was the fifth judge assigned to Cole’s case, and this postponement marks the case’s fourth. Both parties are currently working on finding a new trial date.
