Family members of a murder victim mourned his death at the sentencing of his killer in a hearing on Oct. 6 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeannie Hong.
Keith Morris, 33, pleaded guilty on March 10 to the murder of George Massey III on Sept. 21, 2024, on the 5100 block of Park Heights Avenue. Officers responded to the scene minutes before 1 a.m. to find Massey suffering from several gunshot wounds.
The prosecution earlier informed the court that another person connected to the incident, Karim Abdul, passed away from several gunshot injuries the same day.
Morris was sentenced to life in prison, suspending all but 45 years, for first-degree murder, 20 years concurrent for conspiracy to commit armed robbery, 20 years for firearm use in a felony violent crime, and 5 years supervised probation.
Prior to the sentencing, the court heard impact statements from the victim’s relatives. “I’m angry, and I’m so broken. I pray one day I can forgive you,” said the victim’s aunt.
Another aunt expressed, “I don’t want the court to think of my nephew as anything but beautiful. It was senseless; it didn’t have to happen.”
Followed by a cousin of the victim saying, “Mr. Morris took the gem from my family.”
The prosecutor called the shooting an act of “cowardice” and said it was time for Morris to take accountability.
Morris apologized to the family, saying, “I was not the mastermind. I apologize to the family. I’m really sorry for taking that man’s life. I don’t remember pulling the trigger.”
“The consequences of your actions are why we’re here today,” Judge Hong said before imposing the sentence.
