The trial of an alleged ‘39 Babies’ gang member is postponed until Oct. 15 due to defense attorney, Angela Shelton,’s illness that’s hindering her work.

James Brunson, 40, is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, participation in a criminal organization, organizing, supervising and financing a criminal organization, conspiracy to organize, supervise and finance a criminal organization, conspiracy to commit an unlawful act, conspiracy to distribute narcotics, firearm use in a felony violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, possessing a rifle or shotgun with a mental disability, possessing a rifle or shotgun with a felony conviction and possession of non-marijuana narcotics in connection to a Nov. 1, 2021, incident.

Before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on Aug. 12, Shelton requested a postponement because she and Brunson had yet to review all of the evidence, because she has been sick multiple times this summer while trying to manage a very busy schedule.

Shelton also said that Brunson had more questions about the evidence that needed to be answered before trial.

Judge Copeland granted the postponement but told Shelton that this would be the last of the case.  Brunson was previously set to be tried last December.
The three-day trial is now set for Oct. 15 before Judge John A. Howard.
