A suspect in a homicide last month was killed in a police-involved shooting on July 13 in the parking lot of Security Square Mall in Woodlawn, Md. Two Baltimore Police officers were also injured during the incident.
According to a press release, detectives assigned to the U.S. Marshals were searching for a suspect and a vehicle wanted in connection to the murder of 38-year-old Ali Hanes on June 19 on the 1000 block of W. Lanvale Street.
Officers observed the vehicle on the 6100 block of Security Boulevard and attempted to approach it. After exiting the vehicle, the suspect, Justin Powell, fired multiple rounds at the officers, striking two detectives, according to the release.
Multiple officers shot back at Powell, 32, who succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a local hospital.
The two detectives sought treatment for multiple gunshot wounds at The Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical System. They are listed in stable condition.
The incident is ongoing. Baltimore County Police are handling the criminal investigation, while Baltimore Police are investigating the shooting.
