A trial for a Baltimore man charged with homicide was rescheduled for August on Feb. 14 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn.
Lenny Epps, 45, is charged with first-degree murder, three counts of home invasion, two counts of use of a firearm during a violent crime, three counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, second-degree attempted murder, and two counts of possession of a firearm with a felony conviction in connection to an incident on Jan. 23, 2021.
The trial, which was slated to begin on Feb. 14, was postponed due to the suspension of jury selection with the rise of COVID-19 cases.
Initially, Epps rejected a plea offer Sept. 9 of life for first-degree murder; two life sentences for two counts of attempted first-degree murder; 20 years for use of a firearm during a violent crime; and 15 years for possession of a firearm with a felony conviction. The sentences were slated to be served concurrently.
According to the State’s Attorney Office for Baltimore City, Epps allegedly shot three people on the 600 block of Lakewood Avenue at approximately 3:30 a.m. after a confrontation with the victims in the days prior. One 17-year-old female victim was pronounced dead at the hospital later that day. The two male victims survived.
Epps was represented by defense attorney Ann Marie Gering.
Epps’ trial is scheduled for Aug. 22 with Judge Kendra Y. Ausby presiding.
