A 28-year-old Virginia woman accused of running over a man with a car last November will have her summer trial rescheduled because the date coincides with the birth of her child.
Shakurah Eason, who is charged with first-degree murder, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn on April 12. The prosecution and defense attorney Tony Garcia confirmed the only outstanding pieces of discovery included the victim’s medical records and EMS records.
Garcia told Judge Phinn that Eason’s baby is due in June when her trial was originally scheduled. Judge Phinn agreed to have the case return to reception court on June 1 to reschedule a trial date.
According to the Baltimore Sun, an officer with the Baltimore Police Department heard a commotion outside the Residence Inn at the Johns Hopkins medical campus on the 800 block of N. Wolfe Street on Nov. 14. Upon further investigation, the officer found Donald Eason Jr. trapped under an Infinite sedan.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries on Nov. 20.
It is unknown if or how the defendant and the victim are related. Garcia could not be reached as of April 13.
Shakurah was later arrested after video surveillance cameras showed her running over the victim after the altercation.
