Homicide Defendant Found Competent to Stand Trial

On April 3, Ronald Alston appeared in mental health court before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin.

Alston, 36, is charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery in relation to an incident on Feb. 8, 2020.

Alston has been a patient at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital, a maximum security psychiatric facility, since 2022. According to Baltimore Witness, Alston had previously been found incompetent to stand trial.

After reviewing the results of the latest mental health evaluation, Judge Rasin found that Alston is now competent to stand trial and participate in his defense..

Defense attorney Sharon Bogins Eberhart and the prosecution will need to find a date for trial.

According to District Court of Maryland documents, on Feb. 18, 2020, Baltimore Police Department officers arrived at a BP gas station on the unit block of West Patapsco Avenue to reports of an injured person who was thrown to the ground, kicked and beaten.

Video from the gas station allegedly identified Alston as one of the suspects.
