Homicide Co-Defendant’s Sentencing Postponed Until February 2023

On Dec. 2, three out of four homicide co-defendants had their sentencing postponed before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer. 

Defendants Jabez Johnson, Kevin Cleveland, and Antoine Deandre Trent all had their hearing postponed for unknown reasons to Baltimore Witness on Friday. The fourth co-defendant, Damien Mickens, did have his sentencing take place.

On June 14, 2022, Mickens, 19, Johnson, 20, Cleveland, 28, and Trent, 21, were all found guilty in the fatal shooting of Kendrick Brown and William Barrett, both age 20, on the 3600 block of S. Hanover Street on April 10, 2020.

Trent was found guilty of three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of handgun use in committing a crime, and possessing a firearm and ammo as a minor. 

Mickens was found guilty of first and second-degree murder, the use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, and possession of a firearm as a minor. 

On Oct. 14, 2022, Mickens was sentenced to life, suspending all but 60 years with five years supervised probation for two counts of first-degree murder; a consecutive 40 years for second-degree murder; a concurrent 20 years with the first five years without the possibility of parole for the use of a firearm during a felony violent crime; and a concurrent three years for possession of a firearm as a minor. 

Cleveland was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder. 

Johnson was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, two counts of the use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, first-degree assault, and possession of a firearm as a minor. 

The next hearing for the three defendants is scheduled for Feb. 2.
