Hearing Postponed for Attempted Murder Defendant

A 38-year-old Baltimore woman accused of attempted murder had her hearing postponed during mental health court on Feb. 16 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin. 

Ashley Walton is charged with second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first and second-degree assault, three counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of use of a firearm during a violent crime, use of a deadly weapon with intent to injure, and possession of firearms in connection to an incident on July 19, 2019. 

During mental health court on Wednesday, Judge Rasin listened as the defendant’s defense attorney Robert Cohen argued whether or not Walton is fit for mental-health court due to her charges. 

The prosecutor was not present at the hearing. 

Judge Rasin and Cohen postponed the hearing for one week to clarify with the defendant’s doctor’s if she is competent to stand trial. 

According to WBAL-TV, on July 19, 2020, at approximately 10:45 p.m. officers were called to the 3300 block of Round Road for reports of shots being fired. They found a 17-year-old teenager suffering from a gunshot in the lower leg after an altercation between several women. 

Walton’s next hearing is scheduled for Feb. 23.
