Expert witnesses continued their testimony in 22-year-old Cahari Ferguson’s murder trial on May 29 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John A. Howard. In addition, Ferguson’s co-defendant testified about Ferguson’s deadly intention the night of the crime.

Ferguson, 21, and co-defendent Tyrell White, 21, were both charged with first-degree murder for the brutal repeated stabbing of Sean Neal Malik Brown, 21, that occurred in the 2700 block of North Longwood Street around 2:19 p.m. on May 21, 2023 near Hanlon Park. White is set to plead guilty in late June to being an accessory after the fact to the murder.

Investigators collected multiple DNA samples from the incident location, including a bloodstained rope, face and oral swabs, used condoms, and five nail clippings from the victim’s right and left hand. Two forensic experts from the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) testified in court that all samples were consistent with the victim’s DNA.

During the May 29 hearing, White was transported to court to testify against Ferguson.

According to the prosecution, White accompanied Ferguson and Brown to a marijuana sale the night of the murder.

“Why was Sean Brown there? Why did Cahari bring Brown to the sale at all?” the prosecution asked. “He wanted to kill him, I guess,” White said.

White was allegedly packing marijuana as the stabbing unfolded. When he returned to the vehicle used by the trio, he noticed it had been moved and saw Ferguson walking back to the car allegedly holding an army knife, with blood on his hat and shoes.

“He had blood on his shoes and on his hat and Sean wasn’t in the car no more,” White said.

According to White, Ferguson then disposed of the weapon in a nearby lake. Brown’s bookbag and credit card remained in the car until later in the day, when White and Ferguson were said to discard both pieces of evidence at a gas station.

The jury is expected to reach a verdict Friday.
